Prioritize Your Eyes in 2025

Middle aged couple happy Ighani Eye Care Bedford Texas Save Your Vision

March is Save Your Vision Month as well as Workplace Eye Wellness Month. That’s double the opportunity for us to focus on sharing ways you can help make sure your eyes remain healthy for a lifetime. At Ighani Eye Care, we are as much about people as we are about eye care. It is our goal that every patient we serve enjoy every season of life with the healthy vision they deserve.

We’d like to share some easy ways you can take care of your vision in every season:

Commit to Comprehensive Eye Care

A commitment to comprehensive eye care is the best safeguard for maintaining good vision and eye health at any stage of life. In most cases, we recommend an annual comprehensive eye exam, but if you are someone who has a family history of certain eye diseases or you have diabetes, we may recommend you have your eyes checked more frequently.

There are many eye conditions and diseases that have no early warning signs and this is why a dilated comprehensive medical eye exam is so important! The advanced technology we use for medical eye exams at Ighani Eye Care enables early detection of many eye conditions that can cause vision issues, including Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Cataracts, Keratoconus, Retinal Tears and Detachment, and many more.

Healthy Eyes, Healthy Life

Beyond a commitment to comprehensive eye care with a trusted provider, there are many things you can do on your own to protect your sight, including:

  1. Wear protective eyewear. Whether you’re engaged in sports, hobbies or even at your place of work (if you work in a manufacturing or lab setting or somewhere your eyes are exposed to potential harm), ensure your eyes are protected from hazards with proper safety glasses and/or sports goggles.
  2. Limit screen time. In our digital age, being mindful of your screen time can help alleviate eye strain. From laptops and tablets to desktop computers, smartphones and even TVs, Americans spend more time staring at digital screens than ever before. Remember the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and focus on something 20 feet away.
  3. Focus on your health. In the same way that regular exercise can reduce your blood pressure, it can also reduce the pressure in your eyes, which is beneficial for reducing your risk of developing Glaucoma. Moderate exercise 3-4 times a week can also reduce your risk of developing AMD (age related macular degeneration).

As important as exercise, eating a healthy diet can also make a big difference in your eye health. Key nutrients found in foods like berries, beets, citrus, leafy greens and certain types of fish that are high in Omega 3s are all important for healthy vision.
