An Unexpected Blessing: Jesse’s Cataract Story

Ighani Eye Care Cataract Surgery in Southlake and Bedford Texas

Jesse Crabbe wasn’t feeling exactly blessed when he was diagnosed with cataracts at age 50. You read that right. 50. It’s not a very common diagnosis at such a young age and we tend to think of cataracts as something we will deal with when we’re older and retired. While it’s true that most people don’t develop cataracts until they are into their 60s, 70s and beyond, in rare cases, the onset of cataracts can begin at a younger age.

Jesse, who works in the technology sector in software development, had noticed his distance vision diminishing and he was beginning to have some trouble driving, especially at night. When he went to his optometrist to see about getting new glasses, he was surprised when his doctor told him new glasses wouldn’t help because his vision issues were due to the beginning stages of cataracts. “I was shocked but eager to find out what could be done to fix the situation,” said Jesse.

Finding a Trusted Partner for Cataract Surgery

Jesse had a cataract evaluation with Dr. Farshid Ighani at Ighani Eye Care in Bedford, Texas. “It impressed me so much that Dr. Ighani took all the time I needed to make sure I understood everything that would happen and what my options were,” he said. “He never tried to upsell me on the laser-assisted option or on the premium lens option and I really appreciated that. He just explained all the options and benefits and any cost associated with them. Then he left it up to me. I felt confident that they were going to provide me with the best level of skill and care no matter what and I was right.”

Jesse ended up deciding to move forward with laser-assisted cataract surgery with a premium lens. “Dr. Ighani told me that one of my eyes still looked okay and that I could hold off on that one for a few years if I wanted to save some money, and I appreciated that he was concerned about cost, but I decided to go ahead and get both eyes done now,” Jesse explained. And he couldn’t be happier with his outcome!

Vision Better Than When I was in My 20s!

After his cataract surgery, Jesse is seeing (literally!) the benefits every single day. “My distance vision hasn’t been this good since I was in my 20s!” he said. “I’m actually thankful that I was able to have my cataract surgery at this age because, now, I have incredible vision and have many years to enjoy it. It beats having to do it years from now, when I won’t have as long to enjoy all the great benefits.”

Jesse notes his ability to read street signs while driving has greatly improved. “I notice the improvement most at night and for things like reading signage at the airport.” For someone who travels a lot for work and who spends a lot of time behind the wheel, restored, improved vision is incredibly helpful.
