Clear Lens Exchange
Experience Life with Less Dependence on Glasses
If you're tired of depending on glasses or contact lenses but aren't an ideal candidate for LASIK, Clear Lens Exchange may be another option worth exploring.
Also known as Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), this advanced vision correction procedure replaces the eye's natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) designed to address your unique vision needs.
The procedure is similar to cataract surgery, with one important difference: Clear Lens Exchange is performed before a cataract develops.
For the right patient, Clear Lens Exchange can provide long-term vision correction while also eliminating the possibility of developing a cataract in the natural lens later in life.
How Does Clear Lens Exchange Work?
During Clear Lens Exchange, the eye’s natural lens is carefully removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens. Your lens selection is based on your vision, eye health and lifestyle goals.
Depending on the type of lens selected, Clear Lens Exchange may help correct:
• Nearsightedness
• Farsightedness
• Astigmatism
• Presbyopia, the age-related loss of near vision
Unlike LASIK, which reshapes the cornea,
Clear Lens Exchange replaces the natural lens itself.
Who Is a Candidate for Clear Lens Exchange?
Clear Lens Exchange may be an option for adults who want to reduce their dependence on glasses or contacts but may not be ideal candidates for LASIK.
It is often considered for adults over 40 who are experiencing presbyopia and becoming increasingly dependent on reading glasses, bifocals or progressive lenses.
The procedure may also be an option for people with significant nearsightedness or farsightedness, thin corneas, dry eye or other conditions that may make laser vision correction less suitable.
The best way to determine whether Clear Lens Exchange is right for you is through a comprehensive evaluation of your eyes, vision and overall eye health.
Personalized Lens Options for Your Vision
Clear Lens Exchange isn’t a one-size-fits-all procedure. A variety of advanced intraocular lens options are available to help address your individual vision needs and lifestyle goals.
Depending on your eyes and the lens selected, options may include:
Monofocal lenses – Designed to provide clear vision at one primary distance.
Multifocal lenses – Designed to provide vision at multiple distances.
Toric lenses – Designed to correct astigmatism.
Extended Depth of Focus lenses – Designed to provide a broader range of vision.
Your lifestyle, work, hobbies and vision goals all play an important role in determining which lens may be right for you.
